As we gather with family, friends, and neighbours this Thanksgiving, we want to take a moment to express our gratitude to our readers. From all of us at Common Sense Grande Prairie, we wish you a warm, joyful, and safe Thanksgiving filled with laughter, good food, and time spent with those you care about.
- Speaking of Thanksgiving, several City facilities will be closed today, including City Hall, the City Service Centre, Montrose Cultural Centre, museums, Dave Barr, Keyera Place, Bonnets, and Cedar Point. Some locations - Ernie Radbourne Pavilion, Design Works Centre, and Eastlink Centre - will be open from 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm. City transit will operate on holiday hours from 8:00 am - 6:00 pm, with the late-night on-demand service running only from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm. Regular operating hours for all facilities and services will resume on Tuesday.

The Douglas J. Cardinal Performing Arts Centre was packed for the Grande Prairie City Council candidate forum, where hopefuls outlined their visions for the city. Hosted by the Grande Prairie & District Chamber of Commerce, the forum featured audience-submitted questions on issues like taxes, recreation, physician recruitment, and fluoride in city water. Many candidates emphasized collaboration, accountability, and responsible spending. Several stressed the need for better communication and community engagement. Others highlighted affordability and safety as well as supporting local businesses and innovative problem-solving. A recording of the forum will be made available online by the Chamber.

City Council approved a $20,000 project to install decorative lighting around the Ernie Radbourne Pavilion and pond in Muskoseepi Park. The goal is to make the park brighter and more inviting during the winter months while creating a festive atmosphere for residents and visitors. The initiative was inspired by community feedback and by examples of lit skating ovals in other Alberta cities, such as Spruce Grove. Funding will come from the City’s Community Enhancement Fund, which supports projects that build local pride and stimulate tourism and economic growth. Installation of the lights is expected to take place in the coming months.
- The City and County of Grande Prairie have signed two agreements focused on developing and expanding recreational and cultural facilities in the region. The Recreation and Culture New or Expanded Facilities Agreement establishes a formal process for planning and potentially funding new projects, ensuring that initiatives with regional benefits are collaboratively reviewed. The Multisport Dome Capital Agreement commits the County to support a new recreation facility in the city, including up to $2.8 million in one-time capital contributions. Mayor Jackie Clayton emphasized that the agreements reflect the power of regional collaboration to create sustainable, accessible recreational opportunities. County Reeve Bob Marshall highlighted that the agreements prioritize equitable access to modern facilities for both City and County residents while building a legacy of cooperation.
