• City Council meets today at 3:00 pm, and a delegation from the Mountview Neighbourhood will press members to fund and prioritize flood protection for the area. The delegation says Mountview homes have experienced repeated sewer back-ups during heavy rain for decades, with damage in some cases reaching hundreds of thousands of dollars per home. Residents are calling on Council to approve any improvements identified in the Mountview Drainage Study, to treat them as critical and fund them immediately, and to consider interim measures that could reduce the risk in the meantime.
  
  
• Also today, City Council will decide whether to amend the 2026 capital budget to add two projects totalling $191,480.94. The larger item, worth $117,480.94, would waive development permit fees for the City's own Multi-Sport Dome project and refund them to the proponent, including a building permit fee of $116,573.86. The second is a $74,000 roof replacement at the Saint Lawrence Centre, funded from the Facility Renewal Reserve, which Administration says is needed because a spray foam system installed before the City acquired the building has proven difficult to patch. 
  
  
• Council will also consider giving three readings today to an updated Lot Grading Bylaw, which governs how grading and drainage are handled on individual properties in order to limit the impact of poor drainage on neighbouring parcels. Administration says the update clarifies requirements for builders and developers and adds new clauses aimed at infill development, and that it carries no direct capital costs. The Operational Services Committee recommended the amendment on July 14th. The City says land developers may see modest cost savings from the added clarity, since it should reduce confusion and rework on design plans.
  
  
• A second resident is also scheduled to address Council today to oppose a planned paved trail connection that would run from the Muskoseepi Park trail system up into the Mission Estates neighbourhood at 75A Avenue. The resident argues that the access is redundant because a similar connection already exists about three blocks to the south, and that it would increase traffic in a quiet neighbourhood. He is asking Council not to build the trail. The connection is part of the City's Mission Estates storm rehabilitation project.
  
  
• City Council has approved a 10-year contract with Axon Public Safety Canada for technology and equipment for the Grande Prairie Police Service, worth just under $4 million. According to a report from the police service, the contract covers equipment, software, licensing, maintenance, cloud-based services, and lifecycle replacement, including body-worn cameras, conducted energy weapons, digital evidence management, drone program software, and in-car video systems for Enforcement Services. In December, Council approved a separate contract with the same company for a records management system.
