  • Council approved the 2025 operating and capital budgets, which include a 2.28% tax increase. The operating budget allocates over $34 million for policing and $16.6 million for the fire department, while the capital budget focuses on road projects with over $26 million set aside. Additionally, Council finalized a new Elections Bylaw, allowed for secondary suites in Kensington, and recognized two volunteer award recipients. The final meeting of the year is scheduled for December 16th.

Priority one routes were being addressed, including parking lots at Towne Centre Mall and the Courthouse. The City says that crews will continue the residential neighbourhood work today.

  • Council approved a new healthcare strategy aimed at attracting and retaining healthcare professionals, especially family physicians. Starting January 1st, 2025, the Family Physician Attraction and Retention Incentives Policy, with a budget of $30,000, will provide additional incentives to address the ongoing shortage of general practitioners. While the city has seen an influx of specialists, with 16 joining the community in the past year, the Mayor emphasized the importance of a new ambassador program to help healthcare professionals and their families settle in. This program will involve local community members who will offer guidance and support, helping newcomers quickly integrate into the city.
